Comment:

I am concerned that two of the commissioners are submitting a last minute set of maps, reportedly after working with GOP operatives. As someone who has taken the time to follow this process and appreciates the opportunities presented to the public to comment and attend public meetings during the pandemic, I am displeased by this maneuver. It is disrespectful of the process and The People.

Please a stand for transparency by rejecting any maps that could be tarnished by the ongoing, unreported lobbying to gerrymander legislative districts for the GOP and reject maps being pushed by Commissioners Barnett and Kottwitz and support maps drawn by nonpartisan staff. It certainly feels like our federal government is overtaken by deals made in the shade. Let's at least work to keep our government transparent at the state level. Beverly Angehrn

Comment:

To the Commissioners: The redistricting maps proposed by Commissioners Barnet and Kottwitz have been influenced by illegal lobbying and seek to promote partisan gerrymandering, in conflict with the intentions of the voters of Colorado. I urge you to reject the partisan maps being promoted by Kottwitz and Barnet and instead promote the maps recommended by your non-partisan staff. The staff maps were developed using a transparent process with extensive evaluation and public input. Please support the staff recommended maps and reject the partisan gerrymander of the Barnet and Kottwitz maps.

Comment:

Please respect the work of the nonpartisan, neutral redistricting staff and their final set of legislative maps submitted to the commission. The people of Colorado voted for the Independent Redistricting Commission. Do not subvert our votes and desires through lobbying efforts by anyone.

Steamboat Springs relies one its ski area for its economic impact. Additionally there is a strong presence of Agricultural activity. We recently developed local light industry ( in the last 15 years) that depends on reliable transportation and depends on ground and air. Other areas that are extremely important to our residents is the the high educational level we have achieved throughout our population. Health care and child care also need support. We are a progressive community requiring legislative support in all the above areas. In order to continue enhancing the the livability of our district, we need to be able to elect candidates that have the ability to support new economic strategies in order to counter the loss of the Coal Mining revenues. For all of the above reasons, we need to have congressional representatives that will support us in improving our changing economy. Our District should be able to elect candidates that support these goals.

Comment:

I object to the attempt by Commissioners Hunter Barnett and Aislinn Kottwitz to obtain approval of redistricting proposals that would fundamentally alter the make-up of the state senate and house and hand control of the legislature to the Republican party. It is my understanding that these Commissioners are violating the spirit and the letter of their office by acting at the behest of undisclosed and unregistered lobbyists in what amounts to gerrymandering for the advantage of their party. If Coloradans had wanted to maintain the status quo of political gerrymandering, we never would have voted for a supposedly independent, nonpartisan commission to do this work surreptitiously. I would prefer to see such corruption committed in broad daylight and by the legislature itself in open session--or not at all! Sincerely, Arthur C. Buono Salida, Colorado

Comment:

I write in support of the proposed redistricting maps drawn by non-partisan staff currently under consideration by the full board of commissioners. I oppose recent and ongoing last minute attempts at gerrymandering those maps by Commissioner Barnett and Kottwitz. Please keep the process transparent and vote to approve the staff recommendations which have gone through an extensive evaluation and public comment process. They are fair and equitable to all political parties. Please do not allow this process to be subverted!
