In the spirit of the new independent Colorado re districting process and maps, I oppose recent and ongoing last minute attempts at gerrymandering those maps by Commissioner Barnett and Kottwitz. Please keep the process transparent and vote to APPROVE the STAFF RECOMMENDED MAPS which have gone through an extensive evaluation and public comment process. They are fair and equitable to all political parties.

Comment:

A bipartisan committee was formed for redistricting to assure a fair and competitive outcome. When commissioners of one party push for an overturn to gain unfair advantage it’s foul play and cheating, and it’s just not right. Their attempts to destroy the process that Coloradans agreed upon should be denied.

Comment:

I encourage the commission to submit the maps currently approved by the nonpartisan members. Do not be influenced by the opaque partisan influences of Barnett and Kottwitz. The independent commission was created because Coloradans did not want to be a gerrymandered state like so many others. The congressional districts probably already lean Republican based on on Colorado's registered voters and recent elections. Transparency needs to be maintained. Thank you.

I write in support of the proposed redistricting maps drawn by non-partisan staff currently under consideration by the full board of commissioners. I oppose recent and ongoing last minute attempts at gerrymandering those maps by Commissioner Barnett and Kottwitz. Please keep the process transparent and vote to approve the staff recommendations which have gone through an extensive evaluation and public comment process. They are fair and equitable to all political parties.

Please take a stand for transparency by rejecting any maps that could be tarnished by the ongoing, unreported lobbying to gerrymander legislative districts for the GOP.

I live in unincorporated Teller County and as Teller County resident the fate of the town of Green Mountain Falls in the redistricting process is of concern to me. Green Mountain Falls is an incorporated town located just south of US-24 at border between El Paso and Teller counties. A portion of the town is in El Paso County and a portion is in Teller County. Green Mountain Falls should be kept whole within one HD and one SD. Colorado Constitution Art V Section 48.1(2)(a) As much as is reasonably possible, the commission's plan must preserve whole communities of interest and whole political subdivisions, such as counties, cities, and towns. To facilitate the efficient and effective provision of governmental services, with regard to any county, city, city and county, or town whose population is less than a district's permitted population, the commission shall presume that such county, city, city and county, or town should be wholly contained within a district; except that a division of such county, city, city and county, or town is permitted where, based on a preponderance of the evidence in the record, a community of interest's legislative issues are more essential to the fair and effective representation of residents of the district. When the commission divides a county, city, city and county, or town, it shall minimize the number of divisions of that county, city, city and county, or town. This clearly dictates keeping GMF as a whole town in one SD and one HD – not splitting it. Also, placing GMF with the HD and SD that Teller is in keeps Teller wholly within one HD and one SD - does not split Teller. This is in keeping with the Constitution, too, since the population of Teller County is less than a whole SD or HD. El Paso county is already split due to other considerations, so moving a part of El Paso County into the same SD and HD as Teller County does not increase the number of counties that are split, in line with the Colorado Constitution.

Comment:

Put South City Park back together. There seem to be several instances where map makers intentionally split up local neighborhood and common constituencies. Our South City Park neighborhood, represented as a whole by a single RNO, Registered Neighborhood Organization (Colfax, York, 23rd, Colo Blvd, Colfax boundaries), is proposed to be split in half. Formerly fully in HD8, we're now to be split in half between HD6 and HD8. This is absurd. It's as if the map maker is intentionally trying to dilute or mute our voice.
