Comment:

The non-partisan commission came up with a redistricting plan based on facts and non-partisanship. There are now Republican legislators who are trying to gerrymander the map to ensure Republicans can have a majority. This cannot stand! Keep the map as created and do not allow political gamesmanship to take over our legislature!

Comment:

I have heard that a different set of new maps have been submitted by commissioners Hunter Barnett (R) and Aislinn Kottwitz , circumventing the process used by this commission, and using unregistered operatives no less. This should be wholly, and with vigor, be rejected by this commission. These last minute attempts to manipulate a democratic process should be reviewed closely, with full transparency. I urge the commission to review these requests with the highest degree of transparency.

Comment:

I write in support of the proposed redistricting maps drawn by non-partisan staff currently under consideration by the full board of commissioners. I oppose recent and ongoing last minute attempts at gerrymandering those maps by Commissioner Barnett and Kottwitz. Please keep the process transparent and vote to approve the staff recommendations which have gone through an extensive evaluation and public comment process. They are fair and equitable to all political parties.

Comment:

I write in support of the legislative redistricting map submitted by the non-partisan staff and urge its adoption by the full board of commissioners. I am strongly opposed to the despicable actions of Commissioners Barnett and Kottwitz to gerrymander the proposed map for political advantage. Their actions depart from the intent of the Commission to provide districts that fairly represent the voters of Colorado and warrant their dismissal from the Commission. It is essential that the Commission make public the efforts of these Commissioners and maintain a full transparency throughout the remainder of their deliberations. Respectfully, Sig Jaastad

I urge the commission to take a stand for transparency by rejecting any maps that could be tarnished by the ongoing, unreported lobbying to gerrymander legislative districts for the GOP. Jerry Roberts

Comment:

Legislative Redistricting Commission: My name is Ms. Katherine Czukas. I am representing myself. I have a comment about the SP.006 Barry plan that the commission will be reviewing and voting upon on Sunday October 10th. Alas this plan has some challenges with northwest Colorado Springs in that it is creating a boundary between SD9 and SD11 that would go through residential areas. As a resident of this area, it’s hard to feel like the boundary is based preserving any sort of community of interest that I've previously described. While it is challenging to zoom this particular map on the redistricting website down to the street level (for me, the colors disappear when zooming in), alas it is something I understand well. As being proposed, the boundary between SD9 and SD11 would come right down my residential street. It would divide people who walk to the same public schools. It divides up the Rockrimmon and Peregrine neighborhoods. Effectively about 6,000 people who live in the Rockrimmon and Peregrine neighborhoods (in El Paso County Precincts 201, 202 and 204) are being placed in a northern El Paso County State Senate district SD9, but the remainder of people in these same neighborhoods would be in SD11. The boundary is made by smaller residential streets like Orchard Valley Road or Delmonico Drive. To me, there isn’t a obvious solution to readjust boundaries to between these two Senate districts given geography or municipality boundaries. But I have a suggestion. One idea is to take the 6000 people west of I25 and put them in SD11 and then take some of the area east of I25 and south of Woodmen Road and west of Academy Blvd. and put them to into SD9. And alas that may be very challenging at this point. Thank you again for reading this comment.

Comment:

Dear Commissioners, As a long time resident of Colorado I am proud of the fact that we, as a state, have tried to put into practice a fair and reasonable method of drawing our congressional and legislative districts. Lots of people including myself would probably like to see some changes but I also think that Commission staff has done a credible job in coming up with a plan for the state. I would encourage you to approve the plans that have been presented to you and not "try to re-invent the wheel" by now making major alterations. Thank you.

Comment:

The current draft of the House districting, splits Fort Collins into a North district (HD53) and a South district (HD52). These new boundaries split communities across districts. For example, people at the base of the Foothills on the west side of town will be in the same district as folks living in the far east side of town, instead of their Foothills neighbors directly north of them. It will also split the CSU community into two separate districts. I urge you to main the districts with East / West boundaries which better split the region into communities of interest.

I support and encourage the adoption of the 3rd Staff Plan Legislative Maps for the Colorado Assembly Senate and House. Please reject maps being pushed by Commissioners Barnett and Kottwitz . Support maps drawn by nonpartisan staff such as the 3rd Staff Legislative Map Plan. Please reject any maps that could be tarnished by the ongoing, unreported lobbying to gerrymander legislative district

Please do not give credence to the obvious power grab of the Republican senate and house members who are pushing a new map to guarantee their power over the state. This flies in the face of the nonpartisan committee that was chosen just to prevent this kind of gerrymandering.
