Please reject the gerrymandering in all maps being pushed by Commissioners Barnett and Kottwitz. Transparency is the only way to guarantee fairness and non-bias.

Redistricting maps are one way in which Coloradans get a chance to truly be represented in the voting process. When political parties utilize dark money groups to change maps it is an affont to All Americans right to a free and equal representation in their state government. Republican legislative Redistricting Commissioners Hunter Barnett (R) and Aislinn Kottwitz (R) are working with non-disclosing and unregistered GOP operatives to shove through last-minute maps that would almost certainly ensure control for Colorado Republicans over the next decade. This is wrong and should not be allowed. Reject the gerrymandered maps being pushed by Commissioners Barnett and Kottwitz. Sincerely, mike turner

Please reject the gerrymandered map being pushed by Barnett and Kottwitt. Make it fair to everyone. Also, I don't understand why Douglas County is placed with all of eastern Colorado. It should be included with closer communities.

I am writing to ask that you take a stand on transparency and to reject the gerrymandered maps being pushed by Commissioners Barnett and Kottwitz. The maps need to be fair and bipartisan to be democratic. Thank you,

I want to thank all the commissioner for their hard work over the las year. I approve of the third staff map with Routt and Steamboat location in the House 26 district and the Senate distict 8 but would rather we be in Senate district 8. It has come to my attention that Republican legislative Redistricting Commissioners Hunter Barnett (R) and Aislinn Kottwitz (R) are working with GOP groups to shove through last-minute maps that would ensure control for Colorado Republicans. To my understanding of the redistricting process, this is not the way it should work. Please stop this effort and listen to the citizens you have heard from in Colorado

Thank you, Commissioners & Staff for the difficult work you are doing under pressure! Now to add a little pressure of my own. As you make your final decisions please keep in mind that as important as the data is it cannot capture the human element that largely defines a community of interest. I am concerned that this group of maps shows a bias toward Republicans. In Staff Plan 2 SD-23 looks very much like the current SD-23 which has a significant bias for Republicans. In 2020 for instance 59% of Broomfield voters voted for the Democratic candidate. In spite of the fact that Broomfield makes up over a third of the voters in SD-23, the Republican won that election 55% to 45%. Over 200 Broomfield residents commented to the Congressional Commission that Broomfield is a community of interest in and of itself. This community of interest, our community, has not had a voice in the State Senate in years. Please do not block our voice for another ten years. Also of significant concern to me is the dilution or the Latino community's voice in each of the possible plans. Please look at the voting age data you discussed yesterday with an eye toward that dilution. Also, though, pay attention to the public comments from the Latino community which, again, may or may not show up in the data. Please fulfill your constitutional obligation to hold communities of interest above all other goals excepting population and the Voting Rights Act. Thank you again for all your hard work!

Comment:

The boundaries of the state senate and house districts cut through the Fort Collins community. The areas just west (along Overland Trail, which is growing very fast) and north of Fort Collins (including Laporte and Bellvue) share political views with Fort Collins. Please don't lump these areas in with western Larimer, Jackson and Weld counties, which have very different views and interests. Add more of the area east of Fort Collins to the Weld and greater Larimer County districts and add close-in west and north Fort Collins to the Fort Collins districts, if populations need to be balanced. We (folks just north and west of Fort Collins) aren't represented by the legislators that represent western and northern Larimer County (Wellington) and Weld County (Windsor). Please include all of area code 80521 in with the Fort Collins districts. Thank you.

Comment:

I understood that the point of the redistricting commission was to have a transparent redistricting process. Who in Sam Hill thinks it’s okay to do late changes to the map to gain undue advantage in the seeming cloak of darkness? The public has a level of expectation. Please meet it.
