The recently selected chair of the Colorado Congressional Independent Redistricting Commission has espoused anti-Asian racist and xenobic rhetoric, and has, at multiple times, called and characterized the Coronavirus in racist terms. We cannot have have such a racist and xenophobic person have any influence in how our state is redistricted. Redistricting is so crucial in having equitable and fair representation for us all. Danny Moore must publicly apologize for his social media comments or step down from his leadership role on the commission.

The statements Mr. Danny Moore has made publicly in his social media accounts regarding [a] voting fraud conspiracies; [b] mail-in ballots being "controlled" by the postal service; [c] the use of anti-Asian terminology such as "Wuhan Virus" for the coronavirus and "Chinese News Network" for CNN should immediately disqualify him as fit for his role as the Chair of Colorado's Congressional Independent Redistricting Commission. I do not believe ANY person in that role should hold or espouse views that disparage a culture or population segment (in Mr. Moore's case, Asians), foment hate, or promote conspiracies. Colorado deserves better than Mr. Moore has shown himself to be -- especially for a role that demands objectivity and fairness. Mr. Moore's has disclosed to us his true, and unfit, self through his social media communications -- that he is neither objective or fair.

If the past 4 years have taught us anything, it is that public officials who support provable lies and conspiracies can cause real damage. Racist Voting changes in Georgia and the Jan 6th insurrection at our Capital are the very real outcome of these very fake conspiracies. We must work to remove such officials from positions that require public trust so that there is a price to be paid for misleading our fellow citizens with lies. Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission, Danny Moore’s reported Facebook postings, propagating the big lie that the Democrats stole the election are deeply concerning and I urge the commission to choose someone less mendacious.

I am horrified that the person chosen to lead the new Congressional Redistricting Commission is a conspiracy theorist and a racist! https://gazette.com/dg-print/redistricting-chairman-defends-facebook-posts-i-m-not-a-conspiracy-theorist/article_8572c050-91c8-11eb-86dd-975912013fd6.html . This commission should be run by someone who is intelligent enough not to believe "the big lie" propagated by Donald Trump and his campaign, and of enough moral character not to post racists slurs against Asians. As a citizen of this state, I demand that you do better. Please put someone better in this important position.

To Whom it May Concern - I'm writing to express deep concern over the appointment of Danny Moore to the Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission Chairman position. As a member of the AAPI community, I find his social media postings to be indicative of a highly biased individual not fit to be in the position he now holds. Violence against the AAPI community has spiked in this past year, with 70% of this violence being inflicted upon women. Rhetoric, such as calling COVID-19 the "Chinese virus", spreads the perception that those of Asian decent are somehow to blame for this virus. I cannot condone such behavior and I implore you to remove Danny Moore from his current position. The tasks of the redistricting commission are, simply put, too important to leave room for an individual capable of spreading hatred and uninformed opinions at its helm. https://gazette.com/dg-print/redistricting-chairman-defends-facebook-posts-i-m-not-a-conspiracy-theorist/article_8572c050-91c8-11eb-86dd-975912013fd6.html Respectfully, Maia Yang

My Community From the Inside Out I live in a 55+ community comprised of various HOAs, and a large Senior Living Facility (Independent/Assisted/Medical). We are surrounded by regular neighborhoods. There is a nearby city park enjoyed by all. We are an active community that appears to be environmentally conscious. It is a friendly area where people are willing to be of help to one another and strangers in need, Because of our HOAs, we are used to having input into our local rules. Some of us are active in Non-profit boards, some of us are active in local, state and National politics and some of us golf, garden and aren’t involved much in anything beyond our front yards. A lot of our neighbors do a variety of volunteer work. The area appears to be pretty evenly divided politically. I used to live in Colorado but only recently returned after many decades. I believe Longmont was a more conservative town years ago but it seems to be trending more liberal. Having gone to school in Boulder and having family still there, I find Longmont to be the most diverse of Boulder County towns and I really like it that way. As a community I find it very accepting of ‘others’ which is not necessarily the case in near-by counties. There are many celebrations of diversity which are celebrated with usmby congressional reps from OTHER districts, but sadly, not our own. I keep up on local politics and have had some small input on events (trainings, workshops campaigning, etc.) . I feel that I have some opportunities to be heard in my community and that is gratifying. In Colorado Congressional District 4, that feeling disappears. It is a huge district that covers Eastern Colorado, border to border. It is a conservative district that Longmont falls into for purposes of increased population, I imagine. My rep hasn’t had Town Halls; he doesn’t listen to constituents concerns or polling and he was a “Yes” man for the previous Administration. The GOP Rep nor his staff has ever responded to any of my letters/emails with anything other than a generic automated letter that doesn’t answer my concerns. It is my understanding that this has been the feeling here the last 10 years… I am asking that in considering future Congressional District boundaries you please consider that Longmont needs to have the opportunity to be represented by a representative who at least has an ear to other views. If we are in a district that is 70% conservative, that will not happen. Thank you. Sally Nogg Longmont

Please do not let a conspiracy theorist chair this commission. There must be some Republicans out there who can espouse conservative views without resorting to conspiracy theories and the "Big Steal" thinking. This commission needs to be one that can discuss and debate philosophies without resorting to crazy conspiracy ideas like "the Democratic Steal", "the Chinese Virus", "the Chinese News Network (CNN)", "#9NewsKill" etc.

Congressional and legislative redistricting should be done based on fair and effective representation of all interests as stated in the Colorado Constitution. I am proud to live in the intelligent and civilized environment of Colorado vs a state like Georgia that suppresses voting rights. The racist beliefs and statements made by Danny Moore is against our common good and he would endanger the bi-partisan work as chair of the redistricting commission.

I live in Chaffee County. Chaffee is rural with a community of thriving arts, agriculture and tourism. And, smack in the middle of the County is the Arkansas River corridor and Monarch Ski Area. We struggle with water quantity and a shortage of affordable housing as many communities in the west do. Fire is increasingly affecting our surrounding National Forests. I believe Chaffee County should remain intact and be aligned with like counties such as Routt, Eagle and Pitkin which share similar attributes: economic base, ranching heritage and geographic similarities. Respectfully, Lynne Drogosz

Dear Congressional Redistricting Commission Staff, I am writing to share my profound dismay upon learning of Chair Danny Moore’s hateful rhetoric regarding the novel Coronavirus. As a resident of CD6, I cannot condone having a xenophobic, anti-Asian racist represent me on this commission. Was his social media vetted prior to the judicial panel appointing him? If so, I am appalled. If not, that seems like a huge oversight and one which needs to be corrected for all members serving on both committees. I ask that you replace Mr. Moore with someone who upholds basic human decency and who doesn’t spout racial hatred.
