I urge the redistricting commission to take a stand for transparency by rejecting any maps that could be tarnished by the ongoing, unreported lobbying to gerrymander legislative districts for the GOP.

I have read and heard several places today that there are substantial unreported lobbying efforts occurring behind the scenes to try to ensure that partisan goals are met in the redistricting process. These efforts are being uncovered through CORA requests and perhaps other means. This is very concerning. The final maps should fairly reflect communities of interest and other constitutional requirements, and should not be drawn to attempt to give one party control of the legislature or to protect any incumbents. I hope that any maps submitted by Commissioners that are the product of unreported lobbying to favor one political party over another are rejected.

Comment:

I have learned that a partisan group that includes two of the Republican Party reps on the commission is submitting a map outside of the public process. It is imperative that maps being pushed by Commissioners Barnett and Kottwitz are rejected. Coloradans expect the maps that went through the public review and comment process and drawn up by nonpartisan staff that align to the statutes be supported. Once again I am taking advantage of opportunities to comment. I’m hopeful citizen voices will continue to be heard and this final phase of map review will continue the precedent set so far and fulfill the intent of the legislation during this process to create redistricting maps.

As a Colorado resident I have been following this process and I have provided input on communities of interest for my area. I’m now hearing that maps are being submitted subject to undisclosed GOP lobbying. I ask the Commission to reject these maps and support non partisan staff plans in alignment with the objective of this commission. This is supposed to be non partisan. Thank you, Patty Lampman

Please do not let last minute GOP operatives influence the redistricting maps with their gerrymandering. This process should be unbiased and transparent!

I understand that there is a back door attempt to gerrymander the new legislative maps to ensure that republicans can take over our state. The maps I've seen so far already give that party a much stronger share of our voters that they could actually muster in a totally fair system. And now they want more? I urge you to put a stop to any backdoor lobbying. Make sure that the maps represent us accurately.
