I fairly recently moved back to Colorado Springs (DEC of 2013) or 7-1/2 yrs. This was in order to help care for my aging mother who turned 80 near the end of last year; however, both she & I have similar overlapping chronic health conditions w/ myself having NF2 (Google it), a genetically dominant condition, even though I am only 60. Tonight I write to you from a skilled nursing w/ rehabilitation facility. Thank you.

Dear Congressional Commission, My name is Corinne Greenman, and I've lived in Colorado Springs for over 20 years. I love it here and never want to leave. Colorado Springs is a diverse city, with many different cultures and lifestyles living and working together. I'm proud to call it home. Garden of the Gods park and the Olympic Training Center offer what no other city in America can. Housing is our most urgent issue. Lack of affordable and low-income housing has caused our homeless population to increase, and there is only so much our city can do to help them. With urban sprawl and so much land surrounding us, our boundaries are critical in keeping this city together and working towards the common goal of a healthy, safe, and responsibly growing Colorado Springs. I want to thank you for the opportunity to submit this feedback on behalf of my community. If you have any questions regarding my testimony, please contact me anytime. Sincerely, Corinne Greenman ccgreenman@gmail.com 719-209-1761

I am Paul Stettner, civil engineer, a 52-year resident of Routt County. I've lived in Steamboat Springs since 1986. There have been tremendous changes here since I arrived in 1969: the first stoplight in 1969 - about the same time that Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon and a city population that's grown from 2,000 to over 12,000. Our marketing pitch pushes the agricultural/cowboy vision but we've become basically a tourist destination. A district is best served when there are common priority issues among the constituent counties. I recommend a "mountain tourist district", for example, that would include Routt, Eagle, Summit, Grand, Pitkin, Lake, Gunnison & Chaffee counties. Thank you for accepting my comments.

Dear Commissioners, My name is Arianthé C. Stettner, and I am a 50-year resident of Routt County (including 36 years in Steamboat Springs). I served 7 years on the Steamboat Springs City Council, was the multi-year President of the statewide Colorado Preservation Inc. nonprofit organization, and have been actively involved in regional community issues. A bit of history that you will appreciate: Routt County was created out of the western portion of Grand County in 1877. In 1911, Moffat County was carved out of western Routt County. Even then, the elected officials could see that Routt and Moffat had different economies and cultures. As you consider how to redistrict political boundaries today, it is essential to group Routt County with counties similar in economy, culture, and topography. I know professionally and personally the benefits of being in political districts with similar interests. Such a district has a stronger voice in the legislature and in Congress. Eagle County is an ideal partner with Routt County. Summit, Jackson, and Grand Counties are also appropriate partners. They all have mountains, national forests, recreational and tourism centered economies, and similar issues of concern: affordable housing, transportation, costs of health care, and the impacts of climate change. The issues facing Moffat, Rio Blanco, and Mesa Counties are not the same as ours, nor are their approaches to addressing them. They are better served in a different political district where their distinct voice and the voice of our mountain district can each be clearly heard, not diluted. Thank you for your consideration of my perspective and for your public service on this commission.

Dear Congressional Redistricting Commission, My name is Nicole Burke and I live in Denver, Colorado. I moved here when I was 8, now I’m 37 and I consider myself a native here. I am a cis hetero white female and I am not the type of person who needs to be prioritized when you are thinking about special districts. I am privileged and fortunate to have the representation that I do and I want to use it to support those who don’t. Please use the power that you have to consult with BIPOC leaders who know way more than you or I do what districting can do to support them. Ensure that your process involves them, reaches out. You can do more than you think to create fair representation for all and I encourage you to do so. Thank you.

Dear Congressional Commission, My name is Holly Morton, and I have lived Colorado Springs since 1992 specifically in the Westside area since 1993. We were drawn to this part of the country, and the specific area of town, from Florida due to the abundance of sunshine, fairly mild winters, and it just seemed to be a good place to raise our children. I am writing to express my concerns over affordable housing and our water supply and unchecked growth, especially since the experiences of the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest fires and the nightmare of evacuating the areas affected. I am concerned that the new lines drawn for District 5 may remain in favor of one political party and the interests of their donors, especially if El Paso county is the only area included in District 5. We have had the same person in office for going on 14 years with little to show for the years served, other than Op-Eds that are full of misinformation about our elections and conspiracy theories. It would be great to see the makeup of our District to include our closest neighbor area Pueblo to even out the mix, so that other candidates have a fighting chance. Thank you for the opportunity to submit this feedback. Sincerely, Holly Morton

Comment:

Dear Legislative Redistricting Commission: My name is Andy Kramer, and I’m a lifetime resident of Colorado, born in Colorado Springs and reared in Denver, Colorado. Upon both our retirements from Denver Public Schools, my wife, Judy, and I “downsized” and moved to Broomfield, CO in 2006. As residents of Broomfield, we have come to greatly appreciate what the City and County of Broomfield has to offer its citizens, young, middle-aged, and senior. Since moving to Broomfield, we’ve stayed active, volunteering at the local food bank and serving as a Broomfield Master Gardener. What especially united our Broomfield community was the encroachment of oil and gas activities in our neighborhood, because of outdated Colorado rules and regulations governing this industry. More important, we also discovered that we had little to no representation from the senator serving SD23, which includes Broomfield. We were, and are, excluded from our communities of interest that most resemble communities of interest in our neighboring, sister cities of Superior, Louisville, Lafayette, and Erie. Now, we fully understand that there are communities of interest supporting gas and oil development in their immediate surrounding areas. Revenues from these operations fund important and essential public and private services, in the minds of these residents. However, our communities of interest focus on supporting small businesses, affordable workplace housing, educational opportunities, recreational facilities, public libraries, local history museums, adequate transportation options, easily accessible health clinics, and outdoor recreation opportunities afforded by walking/biking trails, parks, open space, and nature preserves. We hope the Legislative Redistricting Commission will kindly recognize and consider our concerns that we be represented by State Senators and Representatives who truly reflect the wishes of people living in Broomfield, Superior, Louisville, Lafayette, and Erie. Sincerely, Andy and Judy Kramer 4252 Corte Bella Drive Broomfield, CO 80023 303-909-2878 (cell)

In the Colorado House and Colorado Senate districts, I see 2 different things. The House districts seem to be drawn better than the Senate districts. The House district does a better job of keeping the community together, while the Senate district splits my neighborhood and the section of my street that I live on adding it to a larger area to the north and east that dilutes the vote giving an larger advantage to one political party and does not serve the interests of my area of town. Thank you for the opportunity to submit feedback. If you have any question regarding my testimony, please contact me. Sincerely, Holly Morton

My name is John Kerr and last year I bought a house in the East Colfax neighborhood of Denver. I like the diversity and access to work for both me and my wife. Despite the many changes occurring along Colfax and in the neighborhood, we are united with our neighbors to see our area grow with consideration to all those who are living here. Please consider the boundaries of our area and throughout all of Colorado while you are drawing new districts.

Dear Congressional Commission, My husband and I moved to Longmont from Bethesda, MD in 2014 to be near family members. That means that we are essentially city folk. The population of Longmont has grown rapidly over the last decade making. Congressional District 4 no longer just a rural community. Moreover one-quarter of the population of Boulder County is composed of people of color. Our primary concerns are issues such as climate change, affordable housing, mental health services, voting rights and racial equality. Given these factors we would like to see the boundaries of Congressional District 4 adjusted during this redistricting cycle. Sincerely,
