I live on the western slope. I want a representative that is familiar with agriculture & water issues. Someone who understands the challenges we face everyday. We are unique and have very different needs than those that aren’t vested in our lifestyle and i am very opposed of the redistricting.

Comment:

Do not split Broomfield apart by redistricting - you are tearing our community in two and discouraging civil involvement

No matter what political party we support, we all want to have a chance at winning. As a result, I urge the Commissioners to create COMPACT & COMPETITIVE congressional districts -- everywhere if possible, but especially in CD-3. I support both the SCHUSTER map & the TAFOYA-005 map because they try hard to make CD-3 as competitive & as compact as possible. I am a member of the So. CO. River Basins community, & I thank you for listening.

I’m Emily Tracy and I’m not representing any organization with my comments. I have homes in two communities – Cañon City and Breckenridge – and am registered to vote in Fremont County. I have lived in rural Colorado since 1977. Since 2002 I have run for office in two rural legislative districts – a total of 13 rural counties. I’m an uncontested candidate for the City Council of Cañon City in the November election. My comments are about the First Senate Staff Map and Fremont County. Those of us taking a close look at the redistricting process recognize how complicated it is to draw the state Senate and House maps. Every change we suggest impacts multiple districts. I’ve commented before regarding communities of interest associated with Fremont County. Fremont is more tied to Pueblo than to El Paso County, and Fremont has no community of interest ties to Elbert County. SD2 as proposed has an odd appearance – I’m not sure why it is looped through El Paso County. There are multiple ways to improve on the Senate district for Fremont that would incorporate actual communities of interest, such as including Custer, Chaffee, Park and/or parts of Pueblo County. To achieve similar population totals, Elbert could be removed from SD2 and added to SD3, dropping Huerfano from SD3 and including it in SD7. There were some comments at the hearing last night about the large size of the proposed SD3, and suggestions for changes for both Huerfano and Custer counties. Custer could be removed from SD7 and included in SD2. I would note in regard to the proposed SD7 that there are no highways through the Sangre de Cristo mountain range from Custer into Saguache County. If the Commission does not wish to completely re-do SD2, removing El Paso and adding part of Pueblo then I recommend that Chaffee, Custer and a very small part of southern Park County (if needed) be added to SD2 with Elbert removed. With that change the population exchange could be equalized. To preserve communities of interest, that is what I recommend. Thank you. Note: It was suggested to me during the Saturday morning public hearing that I take a look at the Colorado Farm Bureau map. I was not able to locate that map in the map gallery.

Please do not divide Broomfield into two congressional districts. We are a small city and county already encompassing FOUR school districts. We do not need to be further divided by redistricting, nor do we need to lose our voices in both districts.

I am vehemently opposed to Loveland being moved from CD2 to Weld Co. I urge you to keep Loveland in CD 2.

Please do not divide Broomfield into different districts. We are one community of interest; do not diminish the strength of our community voice by splitting it.

Please do not split up the City of Broomfield. By doing that you weaken our voice and don't allows us to function in a united community. I am very much against the plan to break the City up into two districts.

Dear Sirs: I am writing to ask that you do NOT split Delta county. We, who live in the eastern part of the county would not be properly represented because the majority of the other counties you would place us with do not share our needs and interests. We would not be accurately represented as our votes would be diluted by the many other votes of people that do not have a clue about how we live here in Delta county. Thank you, Sheryl Harris Cedaredge, CO
