I have served as a supervisor for almost every job I've ever had. I relish collaboration and believe all persons deserve a voice. I prefer to work in groups and have been told my empathy is a superpower that allows me to understand where each person is coming from. Therefore, I have had many successes in group settings, whether professionally (while conducting scientific projects) or personally (sports, outdoor clubs).
I believe in justice and equality for all, regardless of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation, and this role would allow me to be a part of the process in making that happen for all Americans.
First and foremost, I will be adamant that all commissioners are heard. I am a firm believer that all persons in a group do have a contributing voice. Also, I am a natural peacekeeper. As the youngest child of 3, I have always had the ability to find a compromise in group dynamics. If there is a split decision, a discussion will be encouraged and then we can decide as a group what is best in each situation. I firmly believe in the impartiality of this position. Districts should make sense for all people, not for one political party over another. While working for the Census 2020, a lot of respondents would want to discuss their political beliefs. I was able to allow space for that while remaining neutral and successful at holding back my own convictions whether I agreed or not.
As an environmental scientist, I am trained to apply analytical skills, logic, and reason to all problems/projects. Once a problem is identified, I utilize factual and observed data to analyze the nature of possible solutions while keeping in mind that solutions have a higher likelihood of success in a group setting.
