List of Political and Civic Organizations belonged to

Since November 10, 2015 I have not belonged to any political, civic, or community organizations.

Organization and Advocacy Experience

I served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Fort Lewis College Environmental Center in 2002. In my professional career over the last 11 years, I have continually advanced as a female in a male-dominated field of work. I believe that my advancement is due to my dedication to the core purpose of the work not because I was trying to prove a female could do the work.

It is important to me that everyone in all areas of Colorado have a voice. I have lived in Southwest Colorado for 21 years and the area is different than other parts of the state. I understand how living in a geographically isolated part of the state can feel like a different world. Policies or initiatives that work for cities on the Front Range do not necessarily make sense for rural mountain towns. I love Colorado and want to be a part of making it better for all its residents. I feel this opportunity will put me on a path of involvement I have been wanting for quite some time now.

Statement on Working with Consensus

I consider myself to be opened-minded and a good listener. If I were chosen as a commissioner, I would want to fully understand all perspectives of other commissioners. With a complete understanding of all points of view, the better the chances are of coming to a collective decision that everyone can support. I encourage openness in others as it is necessary to have beneficial discussions. All perspectives are relevant and deserve the opportunity to be heard.

Relevant Analytic Skills for Commission

In my current profession I have gained many analytic skills, including budgeting, brainstorming, restructuring, strategic planning, collaboration, auditing, data analytics, project management, problem solving, investigation, data collection, and checking for accuracy. My education is in science and I enjoy the hands-on aspect of research and the critical thinking aspect of analyzing data. Proper data collection is important for accurate analysis. In my management role, I have used my communication skills to build a more cohesive team across a large geographic area. In less than two years, I turned a competitive work environment into a cooperative team environment. Morale has improved extremely, and everyone is working towards a common goal.
