Background

Professional Background

Was a member of the first anti-fracking movement in Longmont when living there in 2010 with my daughter. Also worked with a community garden nearby in the Monarch/Niwot area that same year.

Past Political Activity

I have contributed small amounts to the campaigns of Democrats Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, John Hickenlooper, Jillian Freeland, Jaime Harrison, Mark Kelly, and Amy McGrath. I also contributed to a PAC my friend was a part of - Silver Spring Progressive Action (SSPA).

List of Political and Civic Organizations belonged to

Attended the Colorado caucus in March and then the virtual El Paso County Democratic Convention as a Biden delegate.

Statement

I lived in North Carolina for many years and saw how African Americans were systematically denied equal representation. Gerrymandering strategies such as "cracking" (diluting voting power across many districts) and "packing" (concentrating voting power in one district to limit voting power elsewhere) were common and remain so to this day. I always said that if I had the time later in life I would address this issue. It is where the rubber meets the road in the voting process. Colorado is fairer than most states but it could be better.

Statement on Working with Consensus

Guilford College was a Quaker school and it was there that I was taught the value and strength of the consensus form of decision-making. When all participate in the decision making process, everyone can understand the rationale for choices made. Those who advocate a position need to make their best case, a worthy exercise, and those who don't agree need to listen and open their hearts enough to change their minds. To my mind, the latter skill is more difficult!

Relevant Analytic Skills for Commission

I worked many years as a systems engineer at Lockheed Martin. We performed a variety of complex research and development projects requiring logic and analytical skills. Perhaps my time as a test lead for a thrust vector control board test, part of the flight controls package upgrade to the D5 missile, was my most difficult and relevant project. More details are included in my attached resume.
