I have been a judicial officer and have therefore refrained from this activity.
Colorado Supreme Court Standing Committee on Civil Rules; Colorado Bar Association; Colorado Bar Foundation; Colorado Women's Bar Association; Colorado Municipal Judges Association; Thompson Marsh Inn of Court.
I was a Parish Social Ministry Coordinator for Catholic Community Services from 1985-1987, taught community organizing and development in that context. I represented members of the Arvada City Council in a land use and Open Records Act dispute that eventually lead to the creation of the Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge. I helped the A-Line non-profit airport shuttle obtain its PUC operating permit. I collaborated in filing an amicus brief in the Taylor Ranch historic land use case.
These commissions are an exciting opportunity to implement small-d democracy in a transparent way that will galvanize participation and engagement at all stages of the process and I would like to be a part of that process.
I have been a judicial officer for almost 30 years. I believe I have acquired active listening and engagement skills during that service that help build consensus. I have learned when to help people stand their ground, and when to help them step aside. I have learned principled decision-making without being rigid or inflexible.
Expertise is valuable when it is applied appropriately and rationally. I have adjudicated complex medical and engineering cases to develop creative, innovative solutions to problems in those cases.
