I've mostly been active on the boards of professional organizations related to my career in geophysics. I'm also very passionate about getting more women and latinas active in STEM fields. To that end, I have experience in social media and digital marketing, community engagement and outreach, and conference, program, and meeting planning. I have served in various capacities on these boards for over 6 years beginning when I was 28. Most of my fellow board members are older, white males.
I've been wanting to try and get more involved for a while now. I think this might be my best opportunity to do my part and offer my time to help serve the public.
I live in a communal house with 6 other housemates and my husband. Suffice to say, I've learned how to communicate and listen to others from different backgrounds with different perspectives. I'm good at seeing an issue from all sides and then trying to find the agreement in the middle. As a more centrist Democrat, I also don't have knee-jerk reactions to ideas or policies that might be contrary to mine. Republicans and independents are good people and shouldn't be vilified just because we disagree about policy. I think the more diverse a group is in both backgrounds and ideology, the more likely that the final consensus will be fair and balanced.
As an engineer, I think my analytical skills are likely more developed than the majority of other applicants. I'm also great with an Excel spreadsheet!
