Past Political Activity

I am a reliable voter. I encourage others to vote. I have done phone banking for local Democratic Parties. Made small dollar donations to Biden/ Harris Campaign, Clinton/ Kaine Campaign.

List of Political and Civic Organizations belonged to

Indivisible Member, Member of the New World Primate Taxon Advisory Group (professional organization).

Organization and Advocacy Experience

I was part of a leadership group at Denver Zoo that focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. I worked with an Indivisible Group here in Colorado to encourage voter turnout. I wrote voter letters in 2020 for VoteFwd. In 2010, and 2011 I was the Conference Director for the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference. I worked with college students, local officials, and national cycling officials to make successful, safe, USA Cycling sanctioned events for local cyclists.

I am a proud Coloradoan, and I want to represent the people of Colorado in redistricting. I understand that Colorado's political landscape is influenced by these districts. I believe in this civic duty, and keeping it legal and ethical. After completing a leadership project focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion I understand the importance of these maps representing each and every Coloradoan, and I want to be an advocate for that happening.

Statement on Working with Consensus

I have taken coursework in how to facilitate, lead, and build communication in teams. I have listening skills, know how to wait for responses and when to press for responses from everyone. I have strong public speaking skills. I can watch the pace of meetings and facilitate keeping an agenda and stay on time. My ability to remain fair and impartial lies in my ability to listen and trust that government should represent everyone, from all parties and backgrounds The leadership group I participated in that focused on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion helped to set me up for this. I understand how biases are drivers that influence how we see the world. I understand both conscious and unconscious bias. This understanding will allow me to bridge divergent viewpoints to help provide consensus and seek common ground.

Relevant Analytic Skills for Commission

In my job as a primate keeper I am faced with problems in stressful and chaotic situations daily. I have to use logic and analytical skills to understand each problem that arises for the animals under my care. I cannot simply ask them. It requires observation, problem solving, and extreme attention to detail. Safety is also the number one priority in a zoo setting which means that we are constantly adjusting and readjusting to changes and anything that may arise. In the team environment at the zoo I have to work cooperatively with my colleagues in order to achieve the best outcomes for the primates. This requires collaborative problem solving.
