Organization and Advocacy Experience

I am the current Chair of Weld Air and Water a nonprofit community-based organization: our purpose is to promote the social and environmental welfare, including but not limited to: serving as an information clearinghouse, an advocate for health and safety, and a community organizing tool for citizens of Weld County, Colorado in relation to oil and gas development in the County.

Statement

Having demographically representative districts is key to a republic. As we are not a direct democracy, we rely on the voice of groups of us to elect an appropriate representative, thus, the make-up of those groups must reflect the diversity in the group to ensure the selected representation adequately advocates. It is my duty to offer to serve to ensure the validity of this process.

Statement on Working with Consensus

I bring with me the experience of multiple rulemakings at the Colorado Air Quality Commission and the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Discussing different viewpoints, and consensus building are two of the necessary skills involved in those rulemakings. Further, I have been Chair at Weld Air and Water for nine years, I believe a group can arrive at a "natural consensus" if all the data is presented in an understandable way, as an educator I'm pretty good at assembling and presenting things.
